Danu, the Irish Mother Goddess – mother of the Tuatha Dé Danann (People of the Goddess Danu).

One origin story tells of how she nurtures a sacred oak tree – the embodiment of the God of Light – Bile (pronounced Bee-le).
This union results in the birth of the Dagda or Oll-Athair – father of the Gods.

Danu is associated with wisdom, knowledge and nurturing.

Ann McKenna

As a painter and printmaker, Ann explores and draws inspiration from Irish legends, fairy tales , romantic tragedies – stories that are steeped in our culture and inhabit our earliest memories. The organic nature of these stories interest Ann, in the sense that they have been told and retold over generations.
Ann works in acrylic, oil, ink and drypoint etching.

The images she creates are highly narrative, with a strong emphasis on draughtsmanship, bringing many much loved, iconic tales to life.
