‘You can say the sun is shining if you really want to’
This is a painting of sunset on the darkest day of the year, December 21st. The title is borrowed from a line in a Nick Drake song entitled ‘Road’. Sometimes darkness comes in its different guises no matter what and getting back to light means sitting with it and letting it take it’s course. Chasing the light can lead one to get more lost and end up in darkness for a longer period of time. You can’t chase and catch a setting sun.
“I paint and document what I experience around me (the visceral as much as the visual) as acutely as I can. Certain places and objects I experience resonate and won’t let me go until I work through them, sometimes I know why during the process and sometimes the obsession is revealed afterward.”
