DAVID WATKINSON

David began his Art studies at Wrexham College of Art moving on to study Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University leaving with BA Hons in 1994. Since then he has worked as a full-time sculptor from his studios in Leeds.

You will find David’s Sculptures in some of the most prestigious collections across the world – from private gardens to public spaces.
‘I am a modern artist in its truest sense, utilising modern and cutting-edge techniques to play with materials, colour, form and movement. I have a passion for the new and to create work, which is unfamiliar and exciting, I want to wow the viewer whilst creating a contemplative visual experience.’

KINETIC SCULPTURE

‘I make kinetic sculpture to push the boundaries of traditional static forms.

Kinetic sculpture gives back to the viewer in a way which static work cannot, it has a different way of engaging, it plays with form, light, balance and movement through space, there is tension and drama as the Earth’s elemental forces orchestrate its movement.

Kinetic art is my passion, it allows me to create sculpture that interacts in a harmonious way with the world, it is almost a life form; it is controlled yet beyond my control. It allows the viewer to see the wind, to watch gravity in action and as the sculpture faithfully obeys the laws of physics, it is a reminder that we are part of a greater Universe.’
