“I paint and document what I experience around me (the visceral as much as the visual), as acutely as I can. I get completely lost in the places and objects I experience. They resonate and won’t let me go until I work through them, sometimes I know why during the process and sometimes the obsession is revealed afterwards. I’m ever increasingly aware that hindsight reveals far more about my work than anything I could ever contrive up front.
I’m happy to allow this to continue for now.
Allied to this I have an endless curiosity about the nature of perception, both visual and conceptual. I’m excited to watch this manifest itself and see how it will affect future work. My work currently involves painting and manipulated photography but it is evolving to include more media and influence from other areas I am drawn to.” – Jonathan Dickson
