Born in co. Wexford, Ireland and having spent many years in both London and Australia, Debbie Chapman is a contemporary artist now currently living and working in Dublin. She is mainly a painter but also active in collaborative youth arts.
A common thread runs through her work; the unseen and unnoticed. Unseen characters that inhabit worlds between us. Unnoticed moments that pass before us. Unseen parts of ourselves and unnoticed moments of self-reflection. While sometimes we make time to contemplate life’s big questions, it’s the gradual accumulation of micro-reflections that create our view of the world. These thoughtful pauses occur throughout any average day and often go unnoticed. They lead to observations, realisations or just an appreciation of the moment itself.
Debbie uses oil, acrylics, and mixed media in her paintings. Her compositions portray strength and vulnerability, often simultaneously. She merges pictorial images with personal experiences reconfiguring fragments to achieve understanding.
