Ursula Klinger

Ursula Klinger was born in Germany, where she graduated in Fine Art and History. She chose Connemara as her second home for ten years before moving her Irish base to Dublin. Further travel led to extended stays in the USA, New Zealand, Spain and Malta.

She works mainly in oils, yet sculpture has also been of constant interest. Her realistic figurative style betrays influences by the old masters as well as the surrealists. She favours the traditional technique of oil painting, where under-painting and numerous thin layers of glazes create depth of colour and light.

Several commissions for churches in the West of Ireland involve the use of a wide range of media and techniques, including woodcarving, enamels and egg tempera. They include the complete refurbishment of the church in Lettermullen, Co. Galway and a Last Supper for Kilconly, Co. Galway. Her most recent commission was a life size bust of Eoin McNeill in bronze, sponsored by Louth Co. Council as part of the 1916 commemorations.

Her work centres on the transience of the human condition in both its potential and its fragility. Through time, series evolve as themes reoccur with new facets and possible narratives. Recent works also explore the perception of a fractured and instable world.

She showed her work in many solo and group exhibitions and her paintings are part of numerous collections in Ireland and abroad.
